Gaslight

Brunch has kinda become a weekend ritual for us. With heaps of "Boston's best restaurants" in our neighbourhood, its hard not to as well. However, having said that, the BF and I have become rather jaded with the standard of brunches in this part of Boston. Suffice to say we haven't ventured much out of the South End (spoilt!), so we can't quite speak for other areas such as Cambridge, which we hear serves pretty neat brunches as well. Me thinks the problem is that many of these restaurants started out as lunch and/or dinner establishments (which is where their differentiating factor and selling point lies) and then when brunch fever took off, everyone now wants a piece of the brunch pie. Just about every other restaurant in the South End now serve brunch and sad to say, its not much different from one another. There are times we wished they would just stick to dinner! Seriously. It is as if a totally different (and maybe part-time) chef comes during brunch time. And herein lies our frustration. So the BF and I decided that rather than waste calories (yes if you must consume calories it better be for good food! else, someone better pick up that gym membership fee!) on average food, we'd stick to the better places we know. After trying and tested many a places in the last few months, one of our top picks is Gaslight - a classic Parisian brasserie, where both brunch AND dinner are consistently good. Here are some pics to whet your appetite: 1. Table mat 2. Croque Madame with ham, fried egg, gruyēre, bechamel and frites 3. œUFS poches Vigneronne with red wine sauce, jambon cuie and mushrooms 4. Caramelized Banana Crepes with almond cream 5. Steak & Eggs with a rosemary biscuit and gravy (I wished we had taken a pic of the Onion Soup Gratinee with truffled beef short rib! Grrrrr. Nothing fancy looks-wise, but so yummy, I think its deserving of a shot at fame here!) www.gaslight560.com
