Meandering thru classic American towns, past spectacular beaches, thick woodlands and magnificent scenery, the Pacific Coast Drive along California Highway 1, with some 485 miles between San Francisco and LA, is considered to be one of the world's most famous and longest drives.
A non-stop drive would take about 11 hours, but who comes all the way to California, in summer, and forgo the opportunity for this epic drive?
Our two-day drive along the narrow two-lane highway was nothing short of gusty winds and twisty roads, flanked by dense pine forests on the inland side and vertical drops towards the ocean on the shoreline side. Once you get on the road, there's really no place to turn off. The spectacular views of the sea-sculpted coast line, rugged cliffs, luscious green valleys that go on for miles and miles as long and far as the road takes you makes it all worthwhile. Every turn and bend was rewarded with views so gloriously magnificent that we just had to stop, to capture the perfect image on camera, if not, to hold the moment for just that bit longer.
